If you’ve talked to us about it, you know we hate plastic and wax-coated paper to-go cups. We are pretty passionate about it. This is a struggle for a coffee shop, but our goal is to stop using them entirely, and we are trying the first step now.
From now on, we will not serve drinks in plastic to-go cups. If you need to take your cold drink to go, we can serve all it in a reusable (or returnable) mason jar. To cover the cost we just add $1 (tax included) to the price of cold drinks taken to go, and you can keep the jar, or swap it out for a clean one on another visit. Of course, you can always bring your own cup, too.
To make it a bit cooler, we are working with Onyx containers, a Canadian company who produces non-plastic containers, mostly stainless steel and glass, and a small craftsperson on Etsy to sell reusable stainless steel straws and mason jar lids with straw holes punched into them. They look great, and I love the way the steel straws get cold when you drink an iced drink through them. If you have thoughts on this, or any ideas we could use to become more sustainable, we would love to hear them. We are currently seeking a way to phase out wax-coated paper cups as well. We look forward to hearing from you.
Journeyman Coffee has always been about making people the coffee we love, and experimenting with different ways of serving coffee. We have done this by moving around and serving in unexpected locations. We have decided to settle down in a permanent location, and experiment with a more hospitality-focused coffee service. We are sharing space with the Miccosukee Root Cellar. We will be located inside the restaurant (1311 Miccosukee Rd., Tallahassee, FL 32308). We will be serving coffee with food from the Root Cellar from 6am-2pm on Tuesday through Friday, and 7am-2pm on Saturdays. The Root Cellar will continue dinner service from 5pm-9pm, Tue-Sat. Come join us for espresso drinks and filter coffees from Counter Culture Coffee (Durham, NC) and other special guest roasters in a chill but vibrant atmosphere. We look forward to sharing our passion for coffee and service with you. Whether you want something sweet, a quick coffee to take with you, or to savor an exotic hand-brewed coffee, we’ve got your back. Come see us and let us prove it.
